SHAH ALAM, October 18 – Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said MIC’s move to exclude other party leaders, including those from BN, from its upcoming general assembly is not unusual, as the party is likely focusing on resolving its internal issues.
Speaking at the ASEAN Sports Industry Expo 2025, Zahid emphasised that MIC’s leadership should be given space to address matters concerning the party’s direction and stability. Responding to speculation that MIC may quit BN, Zahid, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, said the coalition respects the autonomy of its component parties.
“We are open to whatever decision MIC makes. There’s no coercion — but just don’t regret it later,” he said. MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran earlier announced that the party’s AGM, set for November 16, will be a one-day event dedicated solely to internal discussions without participation from other political leaders.
