PUTRAJAYA, October 25 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that Upko president Datuk Ewon Benedick remains part of the federal Cabinet, dismissing speculation about his resignation over Sabah’s revenue rights dispute.
Anwar said the entrepreneur development and cooperatives minister attended the weekly Cabinet meeting this morning, adding succinctly, “Not yet,” when asked if Ewon had officially stepped down.
Ewon, who is also the Penampang MP, recently warned he would resign if the Attorney-General’s Chambers appeals a court ruling affirming Sabah’s right to 40 per cent of federal revenue collected from the state.
His firm stance has amplified discussions surrounding Sabah’s constitutional entitlements and the Malaysia Agreement 1963, emerging as a key political issue ahead of the state election on November 29.
