KUALA LUMPUR, October 30 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo have underscored the need to strengthen Malaysia’s digital ecosystem to harness the full potential of artificial intelligence (AI) and maintain competitiveness on the global stage.

Speaking at the Ministerial Forum: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on the Future Workforce during the International Young Future Leaders Summit (iFuture) 2025, both ministers emphasised the importance of responsible AI adoption, strong infrastructure, and national readiness.

Gobind highlighted that Malaysia’s growing partnerships with tech giants such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft, and NVIDIA reflect its ambition to become an AI-driven nation by 2030.

Fahmi also announced that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will immediately implement Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s directive to strengthen national data security through the Sovereign AI Cloud initiative.

Guided by the National Security Council (MKN) and the Digital Ministry, the policy aims to safeguard government data and classified information from cyber threats while ensuring Malaysia’s digital sovereignty.

Fahmi stressed that this move aligns with global practices and marks a crucial step in building trust and resilience in the nation’s digital governance framework.
