KUALA LUMPUR, October 31 – Former Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin is reportedly set to rejoin Umnobefore the upcoming Sabah state election, after receiving the “blessing” of party president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, according to Berita Harian.

The green light was said to have been given personally by Zahid during a recent meeting at the wedding of Perlis Umno chief Datuk Rozabil Abdul Rahman’s daughter. Khairy, now a radio host on Hot FM, is expected to help lead Umno and Barisan Nasional’s campaign in Sabah, alongside many candidates from his political generation.

Sources also indicated that Khairy is being considered as Barisan Nasional’s potential candidate for Kepala Batas in the next general election — a symbolic seat once held by his father-in-law, former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

Although Umno has yet to receive his formal application, Khairy’s anticipated return is seen as a strategic move to rejuvenate party support among younger voters. Khairy, who was expelled from Umno in January 2023 for breaching party discipline, has maintained his loyalty to the party and has repeatedly stated he would not join any other political group.
