KUALA LUMPUR, November 3 – Former health minister Khairy Jamaluddin has pushed back against speculation surrounding his political comeback, reminding party leaders that he did not voluntarily leave Umno but was expelled in January 2023.
Responding to Sabah Umno chief Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin’s remarks urging him not to “come in and leave again,” Khairy stated on social media, “Let me be perfectly clear: I never left Umno. You guys expelled me. Please don’t try to rewrite history.”
His comments came amid reports confirming that Umno Secretary-General Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki had acknowledged Khairy’s interest in returning to the party, though no formal application has been submitted.
The former Rembau MP, who has since transitioned into media and business, said he would address the comeback rumours “in a couple of weeks,” as Umno leaders debate the timing and implications of his potential return ahead of the upcoming Sabah state election.
