GEORGE TOWN, November 6 – In a historic milestone for Malaysia’s semiconductor industry, Silicon X has successfully powered on the nation’s first homegrown Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) chip under the Penang Silicon Design @5KM+ (PSD@5KM+) initiative.

This breakthrough marks Southeast Asia’s first FPGA product developed and validated entirely in Penang, solidifying the state’s reputation as the country’s IC design powerhouse and a vital contributor to the global semiconductor value chain.

The announcement was made during a press conference officiated by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, who commended Silicon X for its pioneering achievement and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing Malaysia’s National Semiconductor Strategy (NSS).

The event also celebrated the induction of two new local IC design companies, Channel Microsystems and Tenasic Technology, as the second batch of incubatees under PSD@5KM+. Together, these milestones underscore Penang’s growing leadership in driving homegrown semiconductor innovation and shaping the nation’s next generation of IC design capabilities.
