SEBERANG PERAI, November 8 —  Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has urged that the RM3 billion Juru–Sungai Dua Traffic Dispersal Project (PTJSD) be expedited to ensure the public reaps its benefits sooner, noting that faster implementation will lower costs and ease congestion.

Speaking at the project’s groundbreaking ceremony at the Seberang Jaya Expo Site, Anwar said close coordination between federal, state, and local agencies will be crucial to meeting the revised timeline. He emphasised that the government’s priority is to improve infrastructure efficiency and reduce project delays through strict monitoring and anti-corruption measures.

“Speeding up the project means cutting unnecessary delays, reducing expenditure, and ensuring better convenience for the people,” he said, adding that the initiative will also help attract more investors to the northern region.

The 17.3-kilometre PTJSD, funded through a public-private partnership model with the federal government covering 60% of costs, is expected to reduce peak-hour travel time from one hour to 20 minutes once completed by mid-2030.

The project is part of the government’s northern development agenda under Budget 2025, which also includes the Penang Light Rail Transit (LRT), Penang International Airport expansion, and Batu Kawan Industrial Park 3. Anwar also announced that the Penang LRT will be extended to Seberang Perai to promote balanced and inclusive development across the state.

“As someone from Seberang Perai, I want the LRT to cross the sea to Penang Sentral. Development must benefit everyone — not just one part of Penang,” he said, reaffirming the government’s commitment to equitable growth between the island and mainland.
