KOTA KINABALU, November 10 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim last night announced 10 Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) candidates who will contest under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) banner in the upcoming Sabah state election — including Datuk Yamani Hafez Musa, the son of Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman.

The announcement took place at the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) and marks PKR’s renewed push in the state. Yamani, a former Sipitang MP, will contest the Sindumin seat currently held by Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) representative Datuk Dr Yusof Yacob.

Two other PGRS leaders — Datuk Jamawi Jaafar (Melalap) and Datuk George Hiew (Karamunting) — will also stand under the PH banner, reflecting closer cooperation between PH and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

Among other notable candidates are former Education Ministry secretary-general Datuk Ruji Ubi, who will contest in Merotai, and Sabah PKR deputy chief Datuk Peto Galim, the only incumbent retained, who will defend Inanam.

PKR’s sole female candidate, Datin Rufinah Pengeran, will vie for the Tulid seat, while Thonny Chee replaces Datuk Seri Christina Liew in Api Api. Anwar said PH will contest 23 seats statewide, calling it a “reasonable number” to ensure effective collaboration with GRS and Barisan Nasional.

“Sabah has the most parties in the world, but our goal is unity and good governance,” he said. The remaining PH component parties — DAP and Amanah — have announced seven and one candidate respectively, while the final five seats are expected to be revealed soon.
