TAWAU, November 11 — The Federal Government will convene a special Cabinet meeting today to determine whether to appeal a High Court ruling granting Sabah 40 per cent of revenue collected in the state, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.
Speaking at the Malaysia Digital roadshow, Anwar said the decision will follow advice from the Attorney-General and consultation with Cabinet members, adding that negotiations with Sabah will begin immediately after the state election on Nov 29.
Anwar highlighted that Sabah now receives an annual allocation of RM17 billion, compared with RM10 billion collected by the Federal Government, and noted that his administration had increased special allocations by RM600 million.
He stressed that the Madani Government prioritises fairness and Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963, while dismissing criticism from the opposition. The Prime Minister also clarified that tomorrow’s meeting will not address the rumours of a Cabinet reshuffle.
