GEORGE TOWN, November 12 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow has issued a stop-work order on all activities at the Tanjung Bungah “Sore Thumb” site following residents’ complaints about beach access restrictions and environmental damage.

The directive, made after a meeting on November 6, halts tree clearing and fence extensions into public areas while the state reviews the project. Chow also agreed to adopt residents’ proposal for a natural park with trails and scenic lookouts to preserve the area’s biodiversity.

With YB Zairil Khir Johari appointed to lead the discussion. Residents welcomed the decision and urged the immediate removal of hoardings and reopening of beach access gates, emphasizing the community’s commitment to protecting the coastline’s ecological and cultural value.
