KUALA LUMPUR, November 13 — Malaysian rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, is set to be released on police bail today after the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) found no evidence linking him to the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin, also known as Iris Hsieh.

Attorney-General Datuk Seri Ahmad Dusuki Mokhtar confirmed that while investigation papers have been reviewed, “there are currently no leads showing the suspect was involved in causing the influencer’s death.”

The case, however, remains under active investigation pending toxicology and post-mortem reports. Kuala Lumpur police chief CP Datuk Fadil Marsus said the investigation paper was referred to the deputy public prosecutor’s office on Tuesday, and police are awaiting further instructions from the AGC.

Wee’s remand, which was extended twice since his arrest on October 22, will expire today, after which he will be released on bail. The case stems from the death of Hsieh, a 31-year-old social media personality from Taiwan, who was found dead in a hotel bathtub at Jalan Conlay on October 22.

The case, initially classified as sudden death, was reclassified as murder on November 4. Wee, who had discovered Hsieh unresponsive and reportedly attempted to revive her before contacting emergency services, later turned himself in at Dang Wangi police station on November 5 to assist in investigations.

Wee, 42, had earlier been charged with drug possession and use after police found nine pills suspected to be Ecstasy in the same hotel room. He pleaded not guilty and was released on RM8,000 bail. His drug case is scheduled for mention on December 18.

Despite speculation over his involvement, authorities maintain that investigations are ongoing, and the AGC will take further action if new evidence emerges.
