KUALA LUMPUR, November 14 – Genting Malaysia Bhd has confirmed that a fee will be imposed on vehicles using Jalan Genting Highlands, with the exact date to be announced. The company cited the high costs of maintaining the 24-kilometre private mountain road, built and managed by Genting Malaysia since the 1960s, as the main reason for the toll.
Frequent wear and tear due to heavy traffic has prompted the company to adopt a “user pays” system to cover maintenance, repairs, and emergency preparedness, ensuring safe access for motorists. The private toll initiative aims to sustain road safety and support the broader Genting Highlands community.
Which include local businesses and millions of tourists who visit annually. Genting Malaysia highlighted the road’s importance in maintaining a reliable transport route to Resorts World Genting and other mountainside destinations.
While emphasizing that emergency response teams are stationed along the route 24/7 to handle accidents or unforeseen incidents in the challenging terrain. Beyond safety, Genting Malaysia noted that Jalan Genting Highlands plays a critical role in driving the region’s tourism industry.
Creating employment opportunities, and contributing to both Pahang’s state economy and Malaysia’s national economy. The private road has also facilitated the development of other mountainside attractions, fostering a dynamic and growing tourism ecosystem beyond the Genting Malaysia group.
