KUALA LUMPUR, November 14 — Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching announced that the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and telecommunications providers are working with the Royal Malaysia Police to curb cable theft and vandalism at telecom towers, particularly in high-risk areas like Sarawak, where losses reached RM9.3 million in 2024.

Measures include inspections of business premises and scrap yards, installation of anti-theft metal trunking, fences, security locks, CCTV cameras, alarms, and sensors that alert providers to intrusions, as part of the National Digital Network Plan (Jendela) to safeguard critical infrastructure and raise public awareness.
