KUALA LUMPUR, November 17 – PETRONAS Suriname E&P B.V. and Staatsolie have marked a historic breakthrough with the Declaration of Commerciality for the Sloanea field in Block 52 — Suriname’s first-ever gas development milestone — signalling the project’s readiness to move toward development pending final investment approval.
Building on the successful Sloanea-1 discovery in 2020, the move reflects strong confidence in Suriname’s offshore hydrocarbon potential and deepwater growth trajectory, with PETRONAS Vice President for International Assets Mohd Redhani Abdul Rahman highlighting the field’s economic viability and the strong partnership underpinning the achievement.
PETRONAS, operator of Block 52 with an 80% stake alongside Staatsolie’s subsidiary Paradise Oil Company at 20%, has made three major discoveries in the block and now holds interests in eight offshore blocks across the Suriname-Guyana Basin, reinforcing its long-term commitment to supporting Suriname’s emerging deepwater energy sector.
