SUBANG JAYA, November 20 — Taylor’s College, in collaboration with Sekolah Kebangsaan Pendidikan Khas Kota Kinabalu (SKPK KK), has officially unveiled the upgraded Inclusive Music Room (Bilik Muzik Inklusif), a sensory-rich space designed to help students with hearing impairment and learning disabilities experience music through rhythm, vibration, movement and visual cues.
The RM50,000 transformation was funded through Taylor’s College’s sponsorship awarded to RISE Educator Award 2025 winner, Cikgu Stefanus Lucas, whose pioneering approach has helped more than 40 special needs students build confidence and self-expression through music.
The launch was attended by Sabah State Education Department’s Chief Assistant Director (Special Education), Mohamad Sufri bin Salim, and Datuk Ceasar Mandela Malakun, Senior Private Secretary to the Chief Minister of Sabah.
Taylor’s College Campus Director Josephine Tan said the initiative reflects the institution’s commitment to inclusive learning, marking its second supported school in Sabah. Educator Stefanus Lucas — who transformed a modest, improvised programme into an internationally recognised platform for his students.
Said the new room represents a milestone in shifting focus “from disability to ability”, while SKPK KK headmaster Muhammad Hamka bin Eallie expressed gratitude for an initiative that brings “hope, opportunity and joy” to the school’s learners.
