KUALA LUMPUR, November 20 – Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has affirmed that he will respect whatever decision the Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) makes regarding its future in the coalition.
Speaking after officiating the Global Chinese Economic & Technology Summit 2025, Zahid said he had closely monitored discussions at MIC’s 79th Annual General Meeting, where delegates unanimously agreed to leave the timing of any potential BN exit to the party leadership.
Including President Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran and the Central Working Committee (CWC). He stressed that BN would accept the party’s decision with an open mind and had no intention of interfering in MIC’s internal affairs.
MIC leadership confirmed that the party would continue supporting Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim until the end of his mandate, regardless of any changes in coalition alignment. BN deputy chairman Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan also proposed that discussions with MIC’s top leadership be held after the Sabah State Election on 29 November.
To clarify the party’s position and future role within BN. While the MIC has considered leaving the coalition, it has ruled out going solo, with any new political alignment to be determined solely by the party leadership.
