GEORGE TOWN, November 22 – MUDA Penang has strongly criticised the latest announcement that the Air Itam–Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Bypass (Package 2) will only be completed in 2027, following multiple delays since it was first announced, saying the repeated postponements reflect serious weaknesses in project planning, compliance and oversight.

The party said residents have endured years of traffic disruptions, prolonged construction, slope safety concerns and uncertainty, while the project—originally promised for completion before January 31, 2025 but now pushed to April 2027—continues to burden the public instead of easing congestion as intended.

MUDA Penang urged the state government to disclose a full project progress report, additional costs incurred and a realistic new timeline, stressing that the people should not suffer from weak governance, unfulfilled promises and ongoing delays in a major public infrastructure project affecting tens of thousands of road users daily.
