GEORGE TOWN, November 25 — Penang Infrastructure Corporation (PIC) has announced significant progress on the Jalan Pintasan Pakej 2: Air Itam–Lebuhraya Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu project, with 269 out of 329 beams successfully launched as of 22 November, representing 82% completion of this critical structural component for the viaduct and bridge.
Each beam measures 2.2 meters in height, 2.25 meters in width, 39.45 meters in length, and weighs 120 tonnes, with remaining launches scheduled based on sub-structure readiness, weather conditions, and site safety, aiming for full completion by March 2026.
Overall project progress has reached 87% as of 31 October 2025, with PIC and contractors emphasizing safety, quality, and compliance with JKR specifications. The ongoing beam launching works mark a key milestone in enhancing connectivity between Air Itam and the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Highway, reinforcing Penang’s infrastructure development agenda.
