KUALA LUMPUR, November 27 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has accepted the resignation of his senior political secretary, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, following criticism over a letter of support issued for contractors involved in a hospital project.
Shamsul announced his resignation on X, citing attempts to exploit the controversy to tarnish his reputation and the image of the Madani government, and said he stepped down to defend himself while expressing gratitude to Anwar for the trust during his tenure.
Anwar, in response, thanked Shamsul for his service and affirmed that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is free to conduct an immediate investigation “without any external interference.”
The Prime Minister also reiterated that the unity government remains committed to transparency and integrity, as calls for accountability continue from political figures and the public over matters of governance and corruption.
