BUKIT MERTAJAM, November 27 – SMK Bukit Mertajam, now in its 61st year, received a boost from the government as Member of Parliament Steven Sim presented a total allocation of RM207,000 to the school during a recent informal ceremony.

The funds cover RM107,000 from 2024, which have been used for the Digital STEM Classroom Phase 1 (Smartboard) and air-conditioning installations, and RM100,000 from 2025 to continue Phase 2 of the Digital STEM Classroom project.

During the visit, led by Principal Puan Saniza Binti Matt Lazim and Parent-Teacher Association president Sivaji Arumugam, additional funding requests were submitted. Steven Sim committed an extra RM200,000 to equip all classrooms with smartboards, emphasizing, “I hope this contribution acts as a catalyst.

I encourage SMK Bukit Mertajam alumni to give back, as education is the most important investment for future generations.” The ceremony was attended by school administrators, teachers, and PTA members, and is expected to significantly benefit the school’s 967 students and 79 staff.
