KOTA KINABALU, November 28 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the resignation of his senior political secretary, Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin, who has been linked to corruption allegations, reflects the Madani Government’s commitment to upholding integrity.
Calling the move unprecedented, Anwar highlighted that Shamsul stepped down immediately and even requested a Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) investigation — a standard he contrasted with what he described as past administrations where accountability was often avoided.
Speaking during a town hall session at the “PMX Sayang Sabah Bersama Anak Muda Inanam” programme, Anwar reiterated that all members of his administration must take full responsibility if implicated in misconduct.
He stressed that genuine nation-building requires strong governance and ethical leadership, urging his team to face investigations and legal consequences when necessary. “Only then are we truly protecting this country,” he said, adding that Malaysia’s success depends on integrity at every level of government.
Shamsul announced his resignation on Tuesday, citing an attempt to implicate him in matters that could harm the image of the Madani Government.
Anwar said the act of stepping aside to ensure transparency strengthens public trust and reinforces his administration’s promise of moral accountability, especially as it navigates political challenges and public expectations.
