KUALA LUMPUR, December 1 — The government is set to tighten control over subsidies for essential goods such as rice, sugar and cooking oil to prevent misuse and ensure aid reaches those truly in need, Deputy Finance Minister Lim Hui Ying told the Dewan Rakyat today.
She said the move is part of a phased subsidy rationalisation plan that will extend beyond energy, mirroring the targeted approach already implemented for RON95 petrol and diesel.
The initiative, aligned with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s fiscal reforms, aims to reduce leakages, strengthen financial sustainability, and redirect savings toward socio-economic development.
