KUALA LUMPUR, December 3 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim confirmed that the government has repaid RM42 billion of 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) debts, covering both principal and interest from 2018 to date, but highlighted that RM9 billion in obligations remain.
Including RM5 billion in principal and RM4 billion in interest on Islamic medium-term sukuk notes due up to 2039. Anwar noted that only RM29 billion of the repayments were covered through 1MDB asset recovery, with the remainder financed by government funds, underscoring the ongoing financial impact of the 1MDB liabilities on the nation’s coffers.
