KUALA LUMPUR, December 17 – Malaysia’s 5G network continues to expand rapidly, with subscriber numbers soaring from 4.6 million in November 2023 to 28.7 million by November 2025, even as median speeds reportedly moderated, according to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
Responding to a report by Ookla showing a drop in median 5G download speeds from 451.79 Mbps in late 2023 to 242.92 Mbps in Q3 2025, MCMC stressed that this is a natural consequence of massive user growth and network expansion.
Average speeds remain robust at over 218 Mbps on the DNB network and over 315 Mbps on U Mobile’s network, aligning with national targets, while the recent approval of a second 5G network is expected to enhance resilience, competition, and user experience across Malaysia.
