GEORGE TOWN, December 17 — The much-anticipated Penang Chingay Parade 2025 will take place this Saturday, December 20, from 6.00pm to 11.00pm, celebrating Penang’s rich multicultural heritage through a vibrant procession from Padang Brown to the Esplanade.
Announced by Penang State EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai at a press conference in Komtar today, the annual parade will feature iconic lion and dragon dances, Chingay flag performances, brass bands, Boria, Indian and Chinese dances, martial arts demonstrations.
Themed floats and special presentations, including a “Dance to the City to Welcome World Heritage” showcase, culminating in stage performances at the Esplanade. This year’s celebration also underscores the ongoing joint nomination by Penang, Johor and Singapore to inscribe Chingay on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
With the Singapore Traditional Wushu Federation invited as a special participant. Visitors can look forward to an interactive cultural experience zone, photo corners and educational exhibitions highlighting the history of Chingay, Community participation and the UNESCO nomination process, offering the public a deeper appreciation of Chingay as a living heritage while enjoying one of Penang’s most colourful cultural spectacles.
