GEORGE TOWN, December 18 — Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today welcomed the appointment of two Penang MPs to the new federal Cabinet following Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s reshuffle.
Expressing hope that the new Deputy Minister of Investment, Trade and Industry (Miti), Bayan Baru MP Sim Tze Tzin, will give “special attention” to the industrial state, while Bukit Mertajam MP Steven Sim Chee Keong takes over the Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (KUSKOP) portfolio.
Chow said his main hope for the reshuffled Cabinet is a strong focus on policy delivery and people-centric economic agendas to address rising living costs, stressing that protecting livelihoods and income sources is key to improving the well-being of the people.
He also praised Sim Tze Tzin’s track record at the Ministry of Human Resources, expressing confidence that his diligence will continue in empowering small and medium enterprises, and underscored the importance of his new Miti role to Penang.
Noting that the state’s industrial ecosystem has extensive dealings with the ministry and would benefit from closer attention at both national and state levels.
