KUALA LUMPUR, December 19 – ASEAN-UK collaboration is accelerating Malaysia’s creative economy, with new research showing strong cultural demand yet persistent market access challenges for creative professionals.

Insights from the British Council’s regional perception poll reveal that while Malaysians see the creative sector as growing and culturally driven, many still struggle to reach wider audiences.

An issue the ASEAN-UK Advancing Creative Economy Programme aims to solve through policy training, digital innovation support, heritage-driven craft initiatives, and UK–ASEAN knowledge exchange.

With strengthened partnerships involving MOTAC, SCENIC, Sarawak’s creative ministry, and Malaysian innovators showcased at global platforms like London Tech Week, Malaysia is emerging as a regional leader in digital content, crafts, and cultural industries.

As the programme enters its second phase toward 2026, the British Council commits to expanding training, improving market access, and connecting Malaysia’s cultural authenticity with global opportunities to help build a sustainable, competitive, and human-centred creative economy.
