KUALA LUMPUR, December 22 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the government has saved RM800 million since the implementation of the Budi Madani RON95 (Budi95) programme on September 30, following the introduction of targeted fuel subsidies to curb leakages.
Anwar said the move ensured subsidies are enjoyed only by Malaysians, preventing misuse by more than 3.5 million foreigners and fuel smuggling activities, while demonstrating the Madani government’s resolve to carry out a reform long debated but never implemented by previous administrations.
He added that every ringgit saved is channelled back to the people through initiatives such as the Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR) and the Rahmah Basic Contribution (Sara), alongside upgrades to clinics, hospitals, roads and national infrastructure.
Under Budi95, Malaysian MyKad holders aged 16 and above with a valid driving licence can purchase up to 300 litres of subsidised RON95 fuel monthly at RM1.99 per litre, compared to the unsubsidised price of RM2.60, ensuring targeted assistance while strengthening public finances.
