PETALING JAYA, December 23 – Kampung Tunku assemblyman Lim Yi Wei has called on the Democratic Action Party (DAP) to return to its social democratic roots, warning that neoliberal ideas have increasingly overtaken the party’s original agenda.
The Wanita DAP leader said beliefs in trickle-down economics and market-driven approaches have diluted the party’s commitment to progressive taxation, labour empowerment and people-centred policies, urging leaders to refocus on values that prioritise public welfare and long-term national interests.
Lim argued that DAP’s strength lies in doing “the right things”, not merely echoing popular sentiment, citing debates over public transport, healthcare, institutional reform and enforcement against overloaded lorries as examples where values must prevail over industry pressure.
Stressing that growing inequality has made daily life less affordable for Malaysians, she said voters still expect DAP to be a catalyst for meaningful change and urged the party to offer clear, principled leadership rather than diluted positions.
