GEORGE TOWN, December 25 – Spring Airlines will begin daily flights between Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Penang International Airport (PEN) starting 30 January 2026, becoming the third carrier to operate this route alongside Juneyao Airlines and Shanghai Airlines.
The service, operating under flight numbers 9C7295/7250 with Airbus A320 aircraft, will arrive in Penang at 2:30 PM local time and depart back to Shanghai at 3:30 PM, covering a distance of 3,645 km in approximately five hours and 50 minutes.
Tourism Malaysia Deputy Chairman Dato’ Yeoh Soon Hin highlighted that this enhanced connectivity will strengthen Penang’s appeal to Chinese travelers, boost tourist arrivals, and generate economic benefits for local businesses, while the initial seasonal approval could pave the way for a permanent service if demand continues to grow.
The new daily flights are expected to reinforce Penang’s position as a premier destination for Chinese visitors, offering direct access to its UNESCO World Heritage sites, renowned cuisine, and diverse attractions.
Dato’ Yeoh emphasized that the expanded air links not only support the state’s tourism ecosystem but also reflect Malaysia’s commitment to strengthening aviation and tourism ties with China, further positioning Penang as a gateway for travelers from Shanghai and beyond.
