SEREMBAN, December 25 – Compliance with the Environmental Quality Act (AKAS) 1974 among motor vehicles nationwide has reached 94 per cent, close to the Department of Environment’s (DoE) 95 per cent target, driven by the use of cleaner fuels such as Euro 5 diesel, newer engine technology and regular maintenance, said DoE operations deputy director-general Norhazni Mat Sari.

She said that during Ops Gerak Kebangsaan, 9,269 vehicles were inspected nationwide with only 567 found in violation of emission rules, while acknowledging that although full compliance is difficult in the near term, the current level is commendable, reflecting DoE’s comprehensive enforcement approach carried out with agencies including JPJ, PDRM and AADK across all states.
