KANGAR, December 26 — Perlis Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli has tendered his resignation from the post, citing health reasons, following recent treatment for chest pain after returning from an overseas trip.
Speaking at a press conference at the official residence today, the Sanglang assemblyman said he had submitted his resignation letter to the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, and that the decision would take effect upon royal consent.
He expressed gratitude to the Perlis royal household, state administration, party leadership and the people for the opportunity to serve over the past three years, while apologising for any shortcomings during his tenure.
Amid ongoing political turmoil in the state, Mohd Shukri stressed that his resignation was not linked to the loss of support from several Perikatan Nasional (PN) assemblymen, insisting the decision was purely health-related.
He said he was unaware of statutory declarations filed by eight assemblymen withdrawing their support until the day they were submitted, adding that while he was not angry, he admitted to having placed too much trust in personal friendships.
His resignation comes after PAS expelled three Perlis assemblymen, leading to unexpected vacancies in the Chuping, Bintong and Guar Sanji seats, further deepening uncertainty in the state’s political landscape.
