KUALA LUMPUR, December 26 — The Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) Malaysia has reinforced its commitment to strengthening the country’s bioenergy ecosystem by hosting the Pre-ISES 2026 Forum, themed “Advancing Malaysia’s Bioenergy Ecosystem,” as a lead-up to the 7th International Sustainable Energy Summit (ISES) 2026.
SEDA Malaysia chief executive officer Datuk Hamzah Hussin said bioenergy, particularly biomass from the palm oil sector, is a strategic pillar under the National Energy Transition Roadmap, capable of supporting energy security while generating new economic opportunities, despite challenges such as feedstock reliability, logistics costs and grid connectivity.
The forum featured findings from a bioenergy clustering study in Peninsular Malaysia, highlighting the significant potential of biomass and biogas from palm oil mills and outlining key business models to drive sector growth, alongside a high-level panel discussion stressing the importance of ecosystem collaboration, innovation and supportive policies.
Insights from the forum will help shape ISES 2026, scheduled for August 11–12 next year at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, as Malaysia positions itself as a regional leader in sustainable and low-carbon energy development.
