BAYAN LEPAS, December 29 — Penang has welcomed China Southern Airlines’ launch of a third daily direct flight between Guangzhou and Penang, marking the first time a Chinese carrier operates three daily services on the route.
Effective December 28, the expanded schedule strengthens air connectivity ahead of Visit Malaysia Year and Medical Tourism Year, providing a timely boost to tourism and business travel between Penang and South China.
The newly added flight arrived at Penang International Airport at 6.00pm yesterday and was greeted with a ceremonial water salute. The welcoming ceremony was attended by Penang Global Tourism chief executive officer Ooi Chok Yan and China Southern Airlines Penang office general manager Jenny Fang.
Earlier this month, Penang EXCO for Tourism and Creative Economy Wong Hon Wai had met with Fang to discuss increasing flight frequencies and enhancing connectivity between the two destinations. Wong said the expanded services.
Linking Penang International Airport with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport — one of China’s three major aviation hubs — reflect strong confidence in Penang’s infrastructure and tourism potential.
The new daily service operates as Guangzhou–Penang (CZ5047), departing at 1.55pm and arriving at 6.00pm, with the return Penang–Guangzhou (CZ5048) departing at 7.00pm and arriving at 10.50pm, complementing the airline’s existing flights on the route.
