GEORGE TOWN, December 29 — The Penang Chingay Parade 2025 brought George Town to life tonight, attracting thousands of residents and tourists with a vibrant procession of lion and dragon dances, Chingay performances, martial arts displays and multicultural acts.
Featuring over 40 contingents, the parade highlighted Penang’s rich cultural heritage and strong community spirit, with Penang State Executive Councillor for Tourism and Creative Economy YB Wong Hon Wai describing Chingay as an inclusive tradition that belongs to all Malaysians and reflects the global recognition of local culture.
Organisers said the event went beyond performance, reinforcing cultural preservation and cross-border exchange, with a special appearance by the Singapore Traditional Wushu Alliance and interactive zones encouraging public participation.
Chief Minister YAB Chow Kon Yeow hailed the parade as a symbol of Penang’s unity in diversity and George Town’s living heritage, while expressing appreciation to all involved and calling for continued support to ensure the Chingay tradition thrives for future generations.
