KANGAR, December 29 — Political uncertainty in Perlis continued on Sunday as Perlis PAS Youth chief and Beseri assemblyman Haziq Asyraf revealed that he was invited to sign a statutory declaration (SD) against former menteri besar Mohd Shukri Ramli without party authorisation.

But chose not to participate. Haziq said he declined the invitation after consulting PAS central and state leadership, stressing that the move was unofficial and contrary to party discipline.

His disclosure came as Kuala Perlis assemblyman Abu Bakar Hamzah of Bersatu was sworn in as the 12th Menteri Besar of Perlis at Istana Arau following Mohd Shukri’s resignation on health grounds.

The SD controversy, involving three PAS assemblymen who withdrew support for the former menteri besar without party approval, led PAS central to terminate their memberships, triggering state seat vacancies and further deepening the political fallout.
