BUTTERWORTH, December 29 — Barisan Nasional (BN) remains a steadfast and loyal partner in Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s Unity Government until the end of the current term, BN chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said on Sunday, dismissing claims that the coalition is seeking to undermine the administration.
Stressing that loyalty is a core principle of BN, the Deputy Prime Minister said the coalition has consistently supported Anwar’s leadership and will continue to do so, adding that a Unity Government retreat involving ministers and party leaders will be held on January 10 and 11 to review manifesto implementation and address key issues such as the cost of living, education, employment and security.
In a separate development, Ahmad Zahid said BN is open to rebranding or forming a new political entity as it navigates constitutional constraints drafted more than five decades ago, particularly in accommodating affiliate parties as full members.
He said the matter would be deliberated by the BN Supreme Council, while reaffirming appreciation for the loyalty of BN’s component and allied parties, noting that any future direction would be guided by consensus and the evolving political landscape.
