KUALA LUMPUR, December 31 — PAS has announced it will not participate in the Perlis state executive council (Exco) to be formed by the newly appointed Menteri Besar, as a show of solidarity with former Menteri Besar Mohd Shukri Ramli.
In a statement, PAS secretary-general Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan said all PAS Exco members would relinquish their posts, although the party remains committed to the Perlis state government in line with the mandate given by voters in the 15th General Election.
Amid the Perlis political developments, PAS also called on Perikatan Nasional (PN) component parties to reflect on recent events and take steps to strengthen public confidence in the coalition. Takiyuddin said PAS is prepared to assume a leadership role within PN.
To reinforce the organisation and prepare for the 16th General Election and upcoming state polls, while reaffirming the party’s commitment to the rule of law, democratic principles, constitutional monarchy, and respect for the Raja of Perlis.
The developments come as PN undergoes a wider leadership transition following Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin’s decision to step down as PN chairman effective January 1, 2026. Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali has also announced his resignation as PN secretary-general and Selangor PN liaison chief from the same date.
While Johor PN chairman Datuk Dr Sahruddin Jamal has stepped down, underscoring a period of significant realignment within the coalition.
