GEORGE TOWN, January 1 — In his New Year 2026 address at Komtar, Penang Chief Minister reflected on the lessons and achievements of 2025, describing them as vital in strengthening the state’s resilience and collective wisdom, while calling on Penangites to embrace the new year with renewed commitment and clear goals.
In what he described as his final term, he expressed pride in Penang’s continued progress and reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to the Penang2030 vision and the Malaysia Madani framework, with 2026 placing strong emphasis on a “livelihood economy” that prioritises quality jobs, sustainable incomes and fair living standards for the people.
He said Penang would further empower SMEs, local entrepreneurship, the gig workforce and skills-based employment through upskilling, the green economy, digital technology and creative industries, while ensuring balanced growth that benefits households and communities.
Highlighting the importance of modern infrastructure and efficient public transport, he pointed to key projects such as the Juru–Sungai Dua Elevated Highway, the Mutiara Line LRT, the expansion of Penang International Airport and high-tech initiatives including the Penang IC Design and Digital Park.
Alongside 122 planned projects for 2026, expressing confidence that these efforts would drive inclusive, sustainable prosperity for Penang as it moves towards 2030.
