KUALA LUMPUR, January 2 — Police issued a total of 12,437 summonses for various traffic offences during nationwide New Year’s Eve 2026 operations conducted from 9pm on Wednesday until 2am yesterday.
Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri said 390 vehicles were seized and 25 individuals arrested under the Road Transport Act 1987, while 20 others were detained under the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, with additional arrests made under the Penal Code and other laws.
He said the operations involved 327 senior police officers and 2,460 junior personnel, supported by several agencies including the Road Transport Department, National Anti-Drugs Agency, Department of Environment, Immigration Department, highway concessionaires and local authorities.
Conducted at 240 locations nationwide, the operations aimed to ensure road safety and maintain smooth traffic flow during New Year’s Eve celebrations.
