KUALA LUMPUR, January 5 – Umno Youth chief Datuk Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh on Saturday called for Malay unity, saying Umno and PAS must take the lead as the party reassesses its cooperation with Pakatan Harapan within the unity government, warning that agreed “red lines” had been crossed.
Speaking at an Umno Youth convention in Petaling Jaya, Akmal said grassroots members were angered by what he described as repeated disrespect towards Malay institutions, Islam and the monarchy.
Adding that perceptions surrounding former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s treatment and the mocking of a royal decree had deeply hurt Malays. He cautioned that while Umno had given its partners the benefit of the doubt for three years.
Continued boundary breaches would prompt opposition from the youth wing, amid renewed calls to revive cooperation with PAS under Muafakat Nasional ahead of the next general election.
