KUALA LUMPUR, January 5 — The government will credit RM100 under the Sumbangan Asas Rahman (SARA) scheme to all Malaysian citizens aged 18 and above on February 9, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced during his New Year address.

Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the assistance is intended to help citizens prepare for the Chinese New Year celebrations and the upcoming month of Ramadan, benefiting an estimated 22 million Malaysians nationwide.

He also announced that SARA assistance for hardcore poor recipients will be credited earlier, on January 9, while the first phase of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), amounting to up to RM500, will be disbursed on January 20.

The measures form part of the government’s continued efforts to ease cost-of-living pressures and provide targeted financial support to vulnerable groups.
