Apple is reportedly planning to launch a new low-cost MacBook in the first half of 2026, aimed at competing with Chromebooks and entry-level Windows laptops. Expected to feature a display of around 13 inches.
The more affordable MacBook is likely to sit just below the 13.6-inch MacBook Air and use a standard LCD panel without ProMotion or mini-LED technology. Rumours also suggest a colourful design in finishes such as silver, blue, pink, or yellow, with a focus on affordability rather than ultra-thin aesthetics.
The device is said to be powered by Apple’s A18 Pro chip, first introduced in the iPhone 16 Pro, offering performance comparable to the M1 MacBook Air for everyday tasks while supporting Apple Intelligence features.
Capable of handling web browsing, document creation, media consumption, light photo and video editing, and iPad-class gaming, the MacBook could serve as a macOS alternative to low-cost iPads with keyboards.
While pricing has not been confirmed, reports indicate it will be “well under US$1,000,” potentially placing it between US$499 and US$799, making it Apple’s most affordable Mac to date.
