BAYAN LEPAS, January 9 — V-Chip, a subsidiary of China-listed Sai Microelectronic, the world’s largest MEMS foundry, has officially established its new IC Design facility in Penang, marking a significant milestone in its global expansion.
Operational since September 2025, the facility reinforces Penang’s status as a key global semiconductor hub, with V-Chip offering end-to-end chip design services spanning architecture planning, IP selection, design verification, custom analog design and physical design to support clients from concept to silicon success.
Speaking at the opening, Seri Delima assemblywoman YB Connie Tan said V-Chip’s presence highlights Penang’s position as Malaysia’s premier IC design centre, supported by strong talent, a mature ecosystem and the Penang Silicon Design @5km+ initiative.
V-Chip CEO Sun Yan Hui added that the Penang facility marks a new chapter in the company’s global journey, with continued investments planned to expand advanced design services, develop local engineering talent, deepen university collaboration and manage global design operations.
While its China headquarters continues to support worldwide growth.
