KUALA LUMPUR, January 11 — The government will not reduce the BUDI Madani RON95 (BUDI95) fuel quota based on income classification, as it seeks to avoid placing additional pressure on household spending, Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican said today.
He explained that the current priority is to analyse data collected since the programme’s rollout to assess its effectiveness and identify any unusual usage before considering changes, noting that the policy represents a major national shift that should not be frequently adjusted in the short term.
Johan Mahmood said government data shows average monthly consumption at about 83 litres, with 90 per cent of eligible users consuming less than 200 litres, adding that proposals for a more targeted subsidy based on income levels are not being considered for now.
As efforts remain focused on plugging leakages from foreigners or companies misusing subsidised fuel and ensuring more Malaysians benefit from BUDI95.
