KUALA LUMPUR, January 13 — HELP University said it is working closely with authorities, as well as the building owner and management, to determine the cause of a fatal explosion that occurred during air-conditioning maintenance works at its Bukit Damansara campus.

In a statement, the university said the affected building will remain closed until official investigations are completed, adding that students and staff were immediately evacuated in accordance with emergency protocols and that internal safety inspections will be conducted at both the Bukit Damansara and Subang Bestari campuses, with classes at the latter continuing as usual.

The explosion, believed to have been caused by a gas leak from an air-conditioning compressor near the cafeteria on the fourth floor, claimed the life of a 24-year-old intern undergoing industrial training with a contractor, while nine others were injured.

Police said there were no elements of criminal activity, and investigations by the Fire and Rescue Department are ongoing, as the university continues to assist affected individuals and their families.
