KUALA LUMPUR, January 16 — Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin made a notable return to the party’s headquarters today, attending the Umno Youth wing assembly nearly three years after his expulsion in January 2023.
Invited officially by current Youth chief Datuk Dr Akmal Saleh, Khairy arrived at the World Trade Centre Kuala Lumpur dressed in a white Baju Melayu with a red sampin, walking alongside Akmal into Dewan Merdeka to a traditional gendang and silat welcome, fuelling speculation of a political comeback.
Despite no longer being a party member, Khairy has consistently reaffirmed his loyalty to Umno and ruled out joining another political party. Akmal said invitations were also extended to other former Youth leaders.
While noting that Khairy had previously returned to WTCKL as a panellist at a Youth-organised programme last year, as the Wanita, Youth and Puteri wings convene ahead of the main Umno General Assembly this weekend.
