PUTRAJAYA, January 16 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil announced that the second round of negotiations on Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement is expected to take place within the next one to two weeks, following preliminary discussions in November.
The upcoming meeting will include Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican and Sabah State Secretary Datuk Seri Safar Untong, with the Cabinet noting that while the initial 90-day period to start negotiations has ended, the full payment mechanism and other details must be finalised within 180 days.
Fahmi emphasised the government’s commitment to honouring Sabah’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), affirming that the negotiations aim to ensure the state receives its constitutionally mandated revenue share.
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Sabah and Sarawak Affairs) Datuk Mustapha Sakmud is expected to provide a full statement on the progress in the near future.
