BAYAN LEPAS, January 17 — Iconic Penang Sdn Bhd officially marked the grand opening of Iconic Marjorie Penang, a Tribute Portfolio Hotel under Marriott International, positioning the five-star property to benefit from the anticipated tourism surge ahead of Visit Malaysia 2026.

Located in Bayan Lepas, the 298-room hotel features Peranakan-inspired design rooted in Penang’s Baba-Nyonya heritage, alongside premium facilities such as an infinity pool, jacuzzi, 24-hour fitness centre and the newly launched WellNest Spa, offering curated wellness experiences with panoramic city views.

The opening ceremony was graced by Yang di-Pertua Negeri Pulau Pinang Tun Dato’ Seri Utama Haji Ramli Ngah Talib, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow, Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, and several federal and state leaders, underscoring the project’s significance to Penang’s tourism ecosystem.

In his address, Chow said the hotel aligns with the Penang2030 vision and the state’s focus on improving connectivity, hospitality capacity and visitor experience, noting strong tourism and MICE growth in 2025 and optimism for further gains during Visit Malaysia 2026.

Iconic Group Executive Director James Tan Cho Chia said the RM180 million development reflects the group’s confidence in Penang’s long-term tourism prospects and its commitment to culturally rooted yet contemporary hospitality.

Developed in collaboration with Hirsch Bedner Associates, Iconic Marjorie Penang blends heritage-inspired architecture with modern luxury, offering distinctive dining venues and lifestyle experiences aimed at both leisure and business travellers, as well as supporting Penang’s role as a key tourism and medical tourism hub in the region.
