KUALA LUMPUR, January 22 — Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said today he will investigate allegations that a senior officer from a government-linked company (GLC) intimidated a reporter during a recent event, stressing that harassment of journalists will not be tolerated.

Fahmi said he would personally contact the officer involved to obtain a full account of what transpired, reiterating that reporters have the right to ask questions freely and should not be subjected to rude or threatening behaviour.

His remarks followed condemnation by the National Union of Journalists Peninsular Malaysia (NUJM), which said a female journalist was confronted and allegedly had her media card seized after posing a question at a press conference.

NUJM described the incident as unprofessional and contrary to press freedom, while Fahmi emphasised that all officials, including ministers and senior corporate figures, must adopt an open and respectful attitude to uphold media freedom and democratic accountability.
